Managing Successful Programmes MSP ™ Training Course

The Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) training course is ideal for programme managers and budding programme managers to upskill and improve your programme management capabilities  – and career opportunities.

Our training course is for the new MSP 5th Edition.

MSP’s new framework and the use of programme management is recognised as a key enabler for organisations to manage transformation initiatives. MSP is being used and adopted more and more within both public and private sectors.

Project Plus and our trainers are accredited by PeopleCert on behalf of AXELOS to deliver the Managing Successful Programmes course and exams.

Our Managing Successful Programmes exams are conducted in our classrooms using paper exam sheets so that you are not distracted by technology issues.

We send you the course handbook in advance of the course for pre-course reading. You are also provided with a digital version of the handbook for your use after the training course.

During the course you should allow some  time in the evenings for further work and study.

We provide your provisional exam results for the Foundation exam immediately after you have completed your exam.

It is important to develop your project, programme and portfolio management skills. Many organisations use the highly popular frameworks which have been developed by AXELOS™ and you can gain your certification with Project Plus to help you perform and use these frameworks.

Classroom Training

We are accredited to deliver the world’s most popular project, programme and portfolio frameworks certification courses and you can learn in our classroom courses in Wellington and Auckland.

You can gain Foundation certification which covers all of the knowledge or you can obtain both Foundation and Practitioner certification which demonstrates your ability to apply your knowledge.

To reflect the increased costs of exams and manuals, the prices for Axelos courses have been increased for courses from 1 January 2023. Classroom Foundation level courses now cost $2695 plus GST and combined Foundation and Practitioner level courses now cost $3795 plus GST.

You can choose from a wide choice of dates in the first quarter of 2023 to gain your certification, and get upskilled and ready to take your career forward.

• PRINCE2. PRINCE2 6th edition is based upon the tried and tested experience of project management practitioners around the world, and provides the themes, principles, and processes to deliver successful projects of any size and complexity.

• PRINCE2 Agile. PRINCE2 Agile blends the flexibility and responsiveness of Agile with the defined governance of PRINCE2.

• Managing Successful Programmes MSP. MSP (Managing Successful Programmes), 5th edition is the “go to” best practice programme management framework, designed to align programmes and projects with organisational strategy and enable enterprise agility. MSP focuses on the delivery of outcomes and benefits, while mitigating risk and actively engaging stakeholders.

• Management of Portfolios MoP. MoP is comprised of principles, techniques, and practices that will assist in the successful adoption of portfolio management. It is concerned with how to choose the optimal projects and programmes to suit your organisation’s strategic objectives and how to monitor the execution of the projects to optimise the value of the investment portfolio. The focus is on doing the right projects.

• Management of Risk M_o_R4. This certification is only at the Practitioner level and it demonstrates that you understand how to apply and tailor M_o_R® 4 and apply practical risk management in your organisation to enable the creation and protection of value.

Our trainers are all Kiwis, who live in Auckland and Wellington, where we deliver our classroom courses. They each have many years’ training delivery experience and project management experience and are accredited for each course by PeopleCert on behalf of Axelos. They each regularly receive very positive feedback from happy participants.

Project Plus is an Accredited Training Organisation. We are accredited by PeopleCert on behalf of AXELOS and can deliver their certification training courses and invigilate the exams in our classrooms.

All courses are fully catered so that you can concentrate on learning and we provide a paperback copy of your course handbook before the course to allow you to complete some pre course study.

Classroom Training, Covid Health and Safety

When you join our classroom training courses you can be confident that we comply with all Health and Safety guidelines and regulations including the COVID 19 Protection Framework (Traffic Lights). This article has been updated in June 2022.

Our goal is to keep all of our people and all of our customers safe while you are progressing your professional development with Project Plus.

All of our people have two doses of the Covid vaccine and a booster dose.

Since the My Vaccine Pass was shelved we still require all of our customers who attend our classroom training courses to wear face coverings especially when you are walking near food or drink facilities.

If you become unwell during your course we will ask you to leave and you can  join your course at a later date for no extra charge.

We offer many self paced online training courses if you cannot meet our health and safety requirements for Classroom Training Courses as set out in Our Training Terms and Conditions.

Project Coordinator Training 2022

Build your career as a Project Coordinator. Join our next Project Coordinator training course and gain our Certificate in Project Coordination to help you build your project career. By completing this certification you will develop your specific skills and knowledge and provide a solid grounding for your future.

The certificate is gained by participating in our Skills and Knowledge project management training courses and then completing an online assessment successfully. The assessment requires an 80% pass mark and reflecting the quality of the training course material and of our trainer’s abilities our successful pass rate is 100%.

The next dates for these courses are listed below. You should start with the Project Coordination Skills course.  The other courses can be spread out over the next few months to suit your workload. All courses are one day unless stated otherwise.

The certification is completed with a MS Project course booked through Project Plus and delivered by Ace Training in their office at 89 The Terrace, Wellington or in Parnell.  Then you have to pass an online assessment.

This one-day course is designed for people new or relatively new to project coordination or project administration. The course covers:

  • The role of the Project Coordinator as scheduler and cost controller
  • The importance of tracking risk and quality through maintaining registers
  • The importance of stakeholder management
  • Registers, report and minute taking

Project Management Skills & Knowledge

This two-day course is ideal for Project Coordinators and Advisors, new Project Managers or Project Managers with no formal project management training and for managers or project team members who need to understand project management. This is our core “how to” project management course. The course will equip you with a set of tools immediately applicable in the workplace, taking you through the stages of a project. The course modules include roles and responsibilities, project initiation, planning, execution and closure. The course contents do not reflect any specific framework so it is useful for everyone.

Project People Skills

This interactive People Skills training course provides insight and practical approaches to help you work well in a project team.

This course covers:

  • What makes a strong, diverse project team?
  • Leveraging power, relationships and emotional intelligence
  • The communication imperative
  • Managing conflict
  • Collaborative decision making
  • Project team closure

You will learn:

  • How to develop a strong and diverse project team

The Importance Of Professional Development

In his recent article for Forbes, Kevin Lynch argues that employees are ‘the key to taking any organisation from the ordinary to the extraordinary’ and thus investing in their development is paramount to success.

Kevin Lynch is President and CEO at National Industries for the Blind in the USA and, like many other executives, has recognised the value of professional development for both companies and for employees. Lynch argues that there are four key ways to utilise professional development:

1.) Invest In Your Best Resource — Your Employees.
Employees are in a unique position when it comes to institutional knowledge and experience of the organisation they work for and can be a valuable resource in learning where the company can improve. Gaining feedback can help in the creation of a professional development plan that accurately responds to employee needs.

2.) Create An Environment For Employee Growth.
A combination of professional training and on the job learning experiences can help employees achieve their full potential and find professional fulfilment.

3.) Expand Employee Development As Part Of The Overall Culture.
Investing in professional development is a great way of showing employees you value them and creating a culture of learning.

In their 9th Global Project Management Survey, PMI found that organisations that prioritise the development of technical skills are 20% more like to complete projects on time and on budget, and meet original goals and business intent.
