Training Pathways

We are very keen to help you develop your and your peoples’ project careers. It is helpful to consider a training pathway to direct and guide your development. We have been delivering pathway options successfully for many years, with many word of mouth referrals and repeat customers.
Everyone is different and starts from a different place and grows at a different pace, so this is just a guide. Importantly, on the job learning and experience is invaluable. Putting learning into practice is important and it prepares you for and supports your next formal learning steps.

The following is one suggested pathway with options – for someone new to project management. Start with building your Skills & Knowledge then progress to certification.

  1. Some work experience, ideally on a project
  2. Project Coordination Skills & Knowledge – a one day course explaining the role and what a coordinator does and how to do it
  3. Some work experience, ideally on a project to apply learning – and grow.
  4. Managing Multiple Priorities Skills & Knowledge – a one day course to help you  manage your time. No previous project experience is required as this course is valuable for everyone
  5. People Skills in Project Management – a one day course for everyone working in project management at every level. It helps explain how to understand and work with people in a non hierarchical structure.
  6. Project Management Skills & Knowledge  – a two day course ideally once you have some experience, even a few weeks.
  7. Project Planning & Control ,Skills & Knowledge – a one day course focused on understanding a structured approach to planning, scheduling and resourcing. A must have for many.
  8. Some more work experience, ideally on a project to apply learning – and grow.
  9. PRINCE2™ – Foundation only at this stage – a three day certification learning about the  world’s most popular project framework, and where all the previous learning slots in and comes together.
  10. More work experience on a project to apply your learning – and to grow.

Learning paths then diverge depending on your career focus or the skills that your organisation wants you to develop
Next steps could be

  • more focus on PRINCE2 by completing PRINCE2 Practitioner and/or,
  • if you use some Agile tools study PRINCE2 Agile™ to understand how you can use Agile tools within the PRINCE2 framework, or
  • if you are working on a programme, especially with transformation change, study Managing Successful Programmes MSP™ or
  • if you want to progress into the PMO or ePMO then Management of Portfolios MoP™ is a good next step and the two day P3GP Project Governance course.

…and don’t forget continuing to gain more work experience is important so that learning can be applied.
